Principal's Message

Welcome to Olympic Middle School!

2020-21 will be an unprecedented school year. While there will be a large amount of uncertainty and change, our mission at OMS remains the same- to promote academic growth and social responsibility in our students. Our instruction and strategies to achieve this mission will look different, but we want to assure you that we will be providing a robust curriculum, a high level of instruction, and that we will not only support your child academically, but social emotionally as well. At Olympic Middle school we believe in educating the whole child.

Fall 2020 will begin 100% online in Stage A of our Shelton School District three stage reopening plan. Stage A is 100% remote learning, Stage B is a blended model where students will be attending two days a week in school and remote learning online 3 days a week, and Stage C is back to the traditional model of in person, in school instruction. We will begin the year in Stage A, then our school board, health department, and our district administration will be working together to evaluate whether or not it is safe to move to Stage B. They will be looking at this every two weeks, continually evaluating, so that we can get our students back in the building as soon as we are able to do so safely.

During Stage A, %100 online learning, we will be using the K-12 curriculum. The K-12 curriculum is a robust online learning platform and instructional program that will be taught by our own OMS teachers! Students will be placed on teams with two teachers teaching the four core subjects. One teacher will be teaching Math and Science and the other ELA and Social Studies. The teachers that students are assigned to, will be the same teachers they have when they return to the building during Stage B. We are excited about this opportunity for students to build relationships with their teachers and with the students that are on their team before they even enter the school building. At OMS, we understand  the importance of building relationships. During Stage A we know that we must intentionally build relationships with our students and help students build relationships with one another to help them get engaged, motivated, and to help with the transition back into school. We have to accomplish this all virtually!  Our teachers are up for the challenge!

This is an unprecedented and difficult time for families, students, teachers, and our community. We will do everything we can to make sure that your OMS student(s) has a positive experience during distance learning. We know that there are individual circumstances that families are facing that may require their student(s) to have some in person instruction in the building. We will be reaching out to those families directly and discussing a plan to meet that need. We also know that not all students can complete their online schooling during the regular school day hours. We are committed to providing evening support to students that need it. We will do our very best to meet the needs of our students and families so that we can achieve our mission to promote academic growth and social responsibility.

I look forward to working with you this year. Feel free to reach out to me or my Assistant Principal, Madelene Cundall, with any questions or concerns and we will be happy to talk with you. While it is sure to be a challenging year, we will move forward together.

 Warm Regards,
Chelsea Brady
