Principal's Message
Welcome to Olympic Middle School, home of the Eagles! At OMS, our mission is to achieve academic growth and social responsibility. We do this by following our school-wide expectations to “Be Safe, Be Kind, and Work Hard”.
Our doors open each morning at 7:45 am. Students will head straight to their homerooms where they will have activities to complete while being supervised by staff. The first bell will ring at 8:00, which will be the signal to be prepared for the start of school at 8:05.
Every day starts with homeroom from 8:05-8:20. This time includes breakfast after the bell and a quick morning check in. An additional 30-minute homeroom time happens around the lunch hour where students will take part in a social-emotional curriculum, Second Step, that teaches social skills, self care, and coping skills. They will also do class meetings and class challenges to help our students build positive connections with their peers and a sense of community in the classroom.
Our students are assignment a team of teacher which include 3 core classes=ELA/Social Studies, Math and Science. Some of our teams you may hear include Team Sockeye, Team Coho and Team Maple, with our 5th grade teams being named after salmon and our 6th grade teams being named after trees. Students will also have a 30-minute academy block. Academy is a time for students to receive instruction developed for their specific needs. This could include literacy skills such as word work or literacy/book clubs or instruction for math and science which may include enrichment.
Students also have a PE/Exploratory class. All students have PE 2 to 3 times a week (2 days a week for ½ the tri, 3 days a week for ½ the tri). Students then have an Exploratory class. They will have one trimester of each Art, Tech, and Music. This will allow students to experience all of the Exploratory classes.
We look forward to having your student here at OMS. Students grow and change so much during their 5th and 6th grade years, and we are excited to be a positive part of their educational experience and personal growth.
